29 Oct 2019: Ain't got no time to write! Ain't no lake dry enough!

Image
Hi everyone!  I dont have any time to write in detail about my week, but we went hiking near Lake Mead today, in the part in which about 50 years ago, was completely underwater. That was cool!  We had MLC yesterday, and it went very well. President Youngblood gave us a sneak peek about the new Light the World initiative for this year, which brought the Spirit very strongly.  Also, we had to take two of the elders in our stewardship to the hospital because both of them sprained their ankles in different ways and on different days. So that ate up a chunk of time, but its all good, we were still able to work.  As the holiday season commences, I invite you all to think of ways in which you can serve as the Savior did, and I promis that as you do, you will naturally grow closer to Him.  The Book is blue, the church is true, and I gotta go! (; Les quiero! Elder Lovell Pics Pics from our ward's trunk or treat (Halloween party) and the hi...

22 Oct 2019: New apartment/area who dis?

Image
Hi everyone! Its been a good first week in Wells Park/Alta Vista 3. We got a new apartment, and a new english ward on top of our spanish branch. We now have 3 sets of missionaries in the spanish branch, and it was cool to see all the new missionaries bear their testimonies and see how unified the members and the missionaries were going to be. Things are going to change in the Alta Vista branch. I am sure of that.  Funny story: on Wednesday, the day of transfers, we had to go all over the Las Vegas valley, dropping things off and stuff like that. It was a pretty crazy day. We ended up in a few of my old areas in Las Vegas, based on where we were. Anyway, we found out from a missionary who was serving in our new ward, that we had a meeting that was supposed to start 5 minutes from then! Well obviously we werent going to be able to make that, so what they did instead was make us speak in the sacrament meeting on Sunday! It was a good experience for me. Only I forgot that I ...

15 Oct 2019: In a Place of Miracles

Image
Hi everybody! I am literally racing against the clock to get this email done, but we have had a great week here full of miracles, hence the reference to a Hunchback of Notre Dame song.  First things first, we did have our transfer calls, and I am: -Staying with my companion, making Elder Sierra the companion I have been with the longest thus far -Staying in Alta Vista (the Spanish speaking branch) only now there will be 3 sets of missionaries in it -we both will be leaving the Palo Verde Ward, which we were very sad about -moving apartments for the 4th transfer in a row for me -gaining a new english area, which overlaps our spanish area, which is exciting.  We had a miracle this week in which we saw a man change before our eyes. His name is Jose, and he has been a member of the church his whole life. He was married in the temple in El Salvador many years ago, but ended up getting divorced from her and started a family with a lady named Alma, here in Las...

8 Oct 2019: Tutty Fruity

Image
Hello everyone! This week was a really good week. Especially since we had General Conference! General Conference is a semi annual event that we have when the whole body of the church listens to the leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ, especially men who we believe are prophets of God. One of them, a member of the Quorum of the 12 Apostles, his talk was about the Fruits of the Gospel, and most of all, the fruit that is most sweet, the Atonement of Jesus Christ.  Also, we were at dinner last week with a Venezuelan couple, and they gave us a couple of Mangos that were HUGE, literally twice as big as my fist! So I thought this title for my email was appropriate. We also had a cool experience yesterday morning! We decided that instead of driving to our next area we were going to work in, we would instead take the little bike trail for a bit and walk there. Well, we were stopped by a man on his bike, who asked us how the work was going. We talked for a bit, and then he...

1 Oct 2019: Bicycle! Bicycle! Bicycle!

Image
Hello everyone! This week I have had a lot of amazing experiences! The first of which was Osvimer getting baptized! The very fact that he was able to get work off for his baptism on Saturday, and his confirmation on Sunday, were miracles in and of themselves! He got called into work literally 20 minutes after sacrament meeting (our first hour of church in which he got confirmed a member of the Church and received the Gift of the Holy Ghost) On the way to the chapel for the baptism, we rode our bikes, and I had my suit coat draped on the strap of my shoulder bag for convenience. Well, it didnt turn out to be very convienient, because my sleeve got caught in my back brakes, causing me to come to a halting stop, almost falling off my bike. It got my sleeve very dirty, and a little torn up. Hence the reference to the Queen song for my email this week.  Last Friday we had another Mission Leadership Council, which went great! We ended up falling short 1 baptism behind o...

17 & 24 Sept 2019: Find the Elect!

Image
Hi everyone! I dont have as much time to write as I thought I would, but there were so many cool experiences that we had while doing the Lord's work here in Henderson.  We had the opportunity to be interviewed by President Youngblood. In my interview, we discussed how we could further the work in the Spanish speaking branch I am serving in, because it is a wonderful area and we need to be doing so much better in it. There are so many prepared people here! We also had the opportunity to receive training from our Area President, Elder Paul Pieper of the Seventy. That was awesome. That is where the title of my email comes from, because he kept saying to us that we need to "find the elect children of God" This phrase refers to those who will receive us because they have prepared and been prepared by the Lord to receive us. It truly was a blessing to partake of that training and learn how crucial it is to find those people! They are just waiting, wheter they...
