30 July 2019: You are learning well ... young grasshopper ...

Hello all!

It's quite hot and dusty out here in good 'ole Henderson, Nevada! And along with hot and dust, comes waves and waves of grasshoppers. Seriously, almost every step we take, a cloud of grasshoppers flies around us as we step around them. It's pretty funny, I'm sure it looks even funnier. We also have cockroaches bigger than I have ever seen in our house! That's fun to see when you are brushing your teeth at 10pm at night.

Henderson is way different, in the fact that people have been living in their houses for many years, since Civil War days...(obviously an exaggeration). In Vegas, most people are fairly transient, so you are always meeting very new people. There are people we are meant to teach here though, I know it!!!

We fasted (prayerfully went without food for two meals) yesterday, so that we can find those who are ready to receive the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ here in our area. We are working in a Spanish branch which covers the better part of Henderson. I love being in a spanish area! I get to speak Spanish multiple times a day, and eat Mexican food again.

My companion is from Chihuaha, Mexico, and he is such a powerful teacher, because you can hear the humility of his testimony. It is palpable, especially when he is teaching in English. His name is Elder Sierra.

On Sunday we had dinner with a Hispanic family, and this wonderful family gives us delicious tacos, and I thought they were made out of pot roast, which I thought was odd, but it tasted good. Then the brother asked me what was the weirdest thing I have eaten, and I said that I had had some restaurant tacos made out of cow tongue. I asked what the tacos were made out of and they said "probably best you don't know" (of course this was in spanish)
Then the hermano told me it was tongue tacos as well. I wasn't fazed because they were really good!

I have a strong testimony that trials really do help our faith grow. This week has truly helped me grow my faith in God and Christ. Not because everything is hunky dory and I am seeing a bunch of people being baptized quite yet, but because I have had to become fully reliant on the Lord and His Atonement that He made for me and for everyone around me. I know this to be true!

Have a great week everyone!
Elder Lovell
