21 April 2020: Small and simple things

Hola todos!

I feel like I have to pop out the journal to write this email like I did in the MTC because I have to think really hard about what happened! I have learned a lot this past week about myself and about my mission. I am super grateful for my companion Elder Gonzalez because he really is helping me see a different perspective. Recently I have been trying to work as hard as I can, sprint to the finish line, and it has been good, we have been seeing good things happen, but it also has had some adverse effects on me, like making me a little more impatient or anxious than usual. My companion, thankfully has helped me see the big picture. He has only been out a month and a half less than me, and is a great missionary.

We have seen a lot of cool things happen with the members in our area. I have seen the long term effects of simple things like not reading the scriptures or having family prayer through some of the members here, and the adverse effects that has on them. So I have titled my email "small and simple things." I know that they do make a difference in our happiness. I notice when I slip in doing the small and simple things, I am not as happy as when I do! It's that simple!

We have had some interesting lessons, including some near arguments with people over the phone. However, Diamond, one lady we are teaching, we had a lesson with a member of our mission presidency on Thursday, and she has been struggling, and since that lesson we have had daily reading sessions in the Book of Mormon, and we have seen a change in her that has been wonderful to see. She is so much more positive! I know that the witness of Jesus Christ that the Book of Mormon contains has the power to change lives, because He changes lives.

I have been collecting recipes from different countries since the lock down. So far I have a recipe from Argentina for milanesa, and that's it. Hna Pecjak in the Alta Vista Branch is gathering some recipes for me for when I go home.

I am out of time for today, but just know that your friend, family member, or acquaintance (me) is doing his best to finish strong and become even more deeply converted to my Savior Jesus Christ! I have been trying to reflect on my relationship with Him the past few days and it has been an interesting experience. I know He lives, that is a fact! His church is on the earth, and we can find peace and eternal joy because of Him!
