22 Jan 2019: Sing Us a Song, You're the Elote Man

Hola todos!

Its been a great week! So great, that I have to make a real, conscious effort to remember what happened this week. I am trying to restart my old tradition of naming my weekly emails after classic rock lyrics, and this week's email is the start of that. One thing I love about Vegas, is that there are three things that are always consistent no matter where you go in the city: Missionaries, taco trucks, and elote men. If you don't know what elote is, look it up, its amazing. Dont worry, no ducks were harmed in the making of elote. It is amazing, especially with chilli on it. We were biking, and ran into a member of my old area, Washington Avenue, who sells elote, and he gave us two ears each of it for free. It was SOO GOOD, with questionable health benefits, but to be honest, anything unhealthy I eat, I burn off during the course of the day. I look the same weight that I was when I left for my mission, but I have actually put on about 27 pounds the last I checked. Who knew I could do that?

Anyway, in the world of missionary work in Sin City, Luz is getting baptized this Saturday! She is so awesome! She has been taught by missionaries off and on since 2012, and somehow, I was one of the missionaries that was meant to teach her. Before I left for my mission, my grandfather told me that there would be people that I am meant to teach. Luz is one of those people. I almost feel unworthy to teach such a sweet old lady.

We had a dinner at a members house right across from the temple. The houses right across from the temple are super ritzy, and so it was cool to have dinner in such a nice house.

We have a young girl named Hailey who will be baptized next week. She has had some hard things happen in her life, and so it is cool to have this happen in her life.

We have had some funny experiences that I wish I could share, but they would not make sense in writing.

Totally Awesome Thought for the week: this past week I have been thinking about my purpose. My missionary purpose is first and foremost to Invite others to come unto Christ. Not Joseph Smith, not to increase church membership, but to help God's children to come unto Christ. Everything else is an appendage to that. The Book of Mormon helps people come unto Christ. The Church helps people come unto Christ. Joseph Smith helped others come unto Christ, and we can know that Christ led him restore His church. Its not Joseph Smith's church. The only name under heaven by which man can be saved, is Jesus Christ.

By the way, congrats to those who are getting their calls and preparing to leave, and putting their papers in for their missions! Keep it up! You know who you are (;

Con amor,
Elder Lovell

Sorry no pics this week, but here is a cool pic of the Las Vegas Temple that a missionary took a while back.
