18 August 2018: It's the Final Countdown!
18 August 2018
Hola todos!
Hola todos!
Well, its the final 4 days before I head out to the scorched terrain of Las Vegas!
It's
been a great week, with some funny, some sad stories to tell, but I
will get to that later. The packing is about ready to start! I am so
pumped to get out there! The next email you get from me will be from
somewhere in the Las Vegas mission!
Here is how it went:
Sunday
was great, as usual. I gave a talk in sacrament meeting (one of the
church services we hold) solamente en Espanol! It went well! Other than
that, I had choir, which was awesome as usual. I am going to miss the
MTC choir. Directing that choir would be my dream calling. That night we
watched an MTC devotional given by Elder Holland entitled "Open your
mouth". It was super good and made me super excited for the field.
Monday
was pretty great, yet average as far as schedule and other stuff goes.
Elder Cluff and I ran into some Polynesian elders, one from Tahiti and
the other from Samoa. They were so cool! They started singing Moana
songs in a Polynesian language. It was awesome!
Tuesday
was my favorite day of the week. It started out with embarrassing
myself in front of the MTC President and his wife. Elder Cluff and I
were finishing up service, and we met President Martino and his wife in
the hallway. First of all, those two are awesome. Both are converts to
the church and have amazing testimonies. I've learned so much from them.
Anyway, President Martino said hello, we shook their hands, told them
where we were from, and where we were serving. Then I made the mistake
of saying " yeah we are just finishing up service and are on our way to
return this 'White Bible' to the front desk" "White Bible" is a nickname
that they are trying to squash that is used for the missionary handbook
of rules that we follow. However, I did not know that they didn't like
that name. The funny thing was that President Martino didn't seem to
care that I said that. Sister Martino said "Hey I have a question for
you,"
*she gestures to the book*
*me being an idiot* 'white Bible' I say.
*Elder Cluff facepalms*
She says "if I was an investigator, I would be confused. We already have a bible"
*I laugh sheepishly*
Later we ran into Sister Martino and she didn't seem to recognize us, so I assume all is forgiven.
That
night we had an AMAZING devotional given by Patrick Kearon of the
Presidency of the Seventh. He was so awesome, and his wife. He has an
awesome British accent and connected with us really well.
We sang "More Holiness Give Me" and there was 1,040 missionaries in the choir!
As
for the rest of the week, it was pretty average. I played some fun
games of volleyball, went to the temple this morning. On Thursday, we
found out that one of the Elders that used to be in our zone had to
return home because of problems with anxiety. It was Elder Mitchell. He
was my singing buddy in the zone, that I could talk choir with. Fue muy
triste.
Yesterday we had
a workshop about working with members in the form of a really funny
play. Think the movie "The Best Two Years". We played a game of
volleyball, and one of the sisters in my zone, who is a little crazy,
punched an elder in the back during the game! That was a little weird to
watch.
Today has been filled with a haircut, writing emails and going to the temple
Pictures to come!
I want to hear from you all!
Love,
Elder Lovell
Elders Thomas and Cluff pose with the Joseph Smith bust. Elder Graham (dark suit) was the only other person other than Elder Engel that I met from PA. He was in the room next to me but not in my zone. |

Elder Thomas received an In N Out burger, and he has also received a breakfast burrito in the mail! |
