22 Nov 2018: Welcome to Transylvania!

Image
Hello everyone! ¡Feliz Día de Acción de Gracias! I'm getting transferred to Transylvania!  Just kidding. We did meet this crazy transylvanian woman who hated America and when we asked her about how long she had been in the US, "Too long!" I love talking to interesting people.  Oh yeah, sorry about not emailing on Tuesday, Happy Pdaysgiving! We also saw the rock lady twice this past week. She stared us down the first time, and we backed away slowly. *Cue the western showdown music* She was the same lady that almost stoned us a couple weeks back. We didn't want to repeat the experience.  We had interviews with President Youngblood yesterday. That was cool. He is quickly becoming a father figure to me.  We had a cool experience on Saturday. We were teaching Jesus Galindo, and we were thinking about dropping teaching him, because he wasn't progressing. But when we got into the lesson with him, we both got the impression that we c...

13 Nov 2018: Yo casi morí otra vez ... y otra vez

Hola mi querida gente! If you don't feel like pulling out the Google Translate again for my email title, here's what it means: "I almost died again...and again..." Our district Seriously it's been an awesome week!  Transfer call happened last night, and....I am staying here in Washington Avenue! Yay! And elder troya is staying with me! Double Yay! And Elder Cluff, my MTC companion, is coming to my district from Blythe, California! Triple Yay! We had three crazy experiences this week that I will share.  1. On Wednesday night, we were just coming out of a Spanish class that we help with in the ward, and were about to head home because it's almost an hour walk some nights from the chapel, but we got a really strong impression to smart sort to see if there was anyone left to visit. We did, and found a lady on the list that lived at the farthest corner of our area. We walked over there, and the lights were off. We still felt st...

6 Nov 2018: "Consecrate your talents"

Image
Hello everyone! I hope everyone is well! I don't have a ton of time to email today, but that doesn't mean don't send any to me!  On Wednesday, we were blessed to go the the temple. The temple is literally the Holy House of God. The Spirit is so strong there, because it is one of the most sacred places on earth. Before we went in, President Youngblood told all of us to think about the ways that we can further the work in our areas. I pondered that question during the entire temple session. At the end, this came to my mind "You need to consecrate your talents." When I left on my mission, I thought I would just sacrifice my musical talents, put them on the altar, so to speak, to focus everything I had on missionary work. When I was at the temple, I realized that I was given these talents to bless the lives of others. I'm not quite sure how I will consecrate my talents, but I know I need to. I am going to start by learning the hymns on the pian...

30 Oct 2018: Yo casi morí!

Hola todos! It's been a crazy week, full of miracles, near death experiences, and more. Yes, if you can read Spanish, we almost died, more or less. We were walking to district council, and a lady was trying to maneuver an overloaded shopping cart on the corner. Naturally, we offered to help her. She starts backing away, we thought she forgot something, but she started grabbing at pebbles, and I thought: "Is she going to throw pebbles at us, that wouldn't be very nice..." Then she grabs a ROCK the size of a BRICK, and says "Get away from me!!" With some other un lady like words that I can't repeat as a missionary. So, we had to, as Abraham said, find a different place of residence (Abraham 1:1). Luckily right at that moment, the walk sign turned on so we bolted out. I was thinking "I would like to finish my mission on this side of the veil, thank you". So we almost became martyrs that day, but it's all good. zone confere...
