25 Sept 2018: American Food is ... Boring

Image
My shoes after a morning of proselyting. Literally some of my areas are that dusty. Hola todos! I have come to make a culinary and cultural observation this past week. After a month of almost exclusively Hispanic dinners, I have realized that American food is just plain...boring. Compared to Hispanic food, which pops with flavor, a cheeseburger or chicken sandwich from In N Out or Wendy's, has no flavor. They still taste good, not a bad burger, but it's just boring now! Oh well, I am going to eat purely Mexican food for the rest of my life and be content with that and die happy.  This week has been a weird one and a fast one. Some highlights were: -met a member of the stake high council whose name is Tony Stark. No joke. -Matt is still going on strong, we mentioned the fact that he could serve a mission in a year and he seemed interested by that!  a funny doorbell that pretty much sums up missionary life. -I had pozole for the first time, whic...

18 Sept 2018: "Nobody's Home!"

Image
Goldfish cupcakes (a.k.a. weekly planning meeting snacks) Hola! As the title says, the theme for this week is"Nobody is home!" Because we have had a lot of people yell that at us from behind their door. Well, either the word got out that LDS missionaries aren't very bright, (which is a false truth) or there are ghosts that are yelling at us that nobody is home, because surely, when we hear somebody saying that, there is clearly nobody home. (Can you convey sarcasm through email?) No, it is just funny when that happens, because it is a sign of desperation from the person that they really don't want to talk to us, and that they really aren't that bright either. All part of the work, ha ha. Last Tuesday after our P-day festivities, we visited a lady named Keisha who we committed to be baptized! We unfortunately had to refer her to other missionaries because she technically wasn't YSA age. Then we got a call from a recent convert named...

11 Sept 2018: "No We Aren't the Police, We're the Missionaries!"

Las Vegas Skyline Hola todos! As the title suggests, this week has been filled with people thinking we were the fuzz, the popo, cops, whatever nickname you can think of for the police. Something about the ties and name tags made people think we were the police. I guess they had something to hide...hmmm. Highlights of the week: -I had my first door slammed in my face. We knocked on the door, and an old man opens it, and before we can say anything he says "Hello, not interested, go away!" And forcefully closes the door. We just say "ok, have a good day!" through the door. Too bad for him, he doesn't get the chance to talk to the "police," ha ha.  Elder Tortilla -We had exchanges this week. Exchanges are when you switch companions for 24 hrs in another area within your district. I went to the Monte Bello Spanish ward area for the day with Elder Ozuna. He is from the Dominican Republic, and since it was an only Spa...

4 Sept 2018: Rain Exists in Nevada?

Image
Hola todos! Week 1.5 has come and gone and yes, apparently rain does exist in Nevada, and it still manages to be bone dry during a rain storm here! And it went from clouds in the sky far off, and everyone knew that we weren't going to get any rain, to a wind and dust storm, to a downpour of rain and dust. Go figure.  Highlights from this week: -Last Thursday right after i sent my email, Elder Dillender and I got a call from President Youngblood saying that an emergency transfer(a quick, necessary switch of companionships needed to be made immediately) and that we would be getting another companion. So now I am in a trio of elders, and Elder Dougal joined the best companionship in the mission! He is super funny, and has a really strong testimony.  A selfie of the new trio. The one taking the picture is Elder Dougal. We are teaching two people that I want to tell you all about. The first is Matt. Matt is awesome. He has a bunch of friends that are ...

30 Aug 2018: Soy un misionero en la Ciudad de Los Pecados!

Title translation: "I am a missionary in Sin City!" 30 August 2018 Hola todos! I am now in the field! Sorry it took so long to write again, our P Day was today because we had a mission tour/conference on Tuesday. Two General Authorities came and trained us, Elder and Sister Lynn G Robbins, and Elder and Sister Bangeter. They were awesome! Good news is that it will be less than a week until my next letter.  I call it a pineapple tree, because it looks like a pineapple So last Sunday was bittersweet to say goodbye to my Branch presidency. I really grew to love them. Monday Elder Kelly left for Omaha and Elder Myer left for his surgery. Tuesday Elder Thomas and Elder Winter left for Alabama and DC. That night we had a great devotional given by another Apostle! This time it was Elder D Todd Christofferson, and be talked about the importance of using the full name of the church. We got to sing an 8 part piece of Joseph Smith's First Praye...
