21 May 2019: Missionary Work is an Upside-down Door

Image
Hello everybody! Having fun calling Mom on her birthday If none of you got that reference, it will be the only time I quote a song from Frozen. I know its a stretch, but I had to find a quote to find that would adequately describe the picture that I attached below. It was a super sketchy apartment complex that we had to leave because of the uneasy feeling we got. We are teaching a lady named Camille in a really sketchy part of town, but it is so cool teaching her because you can see the Spirit working on her in her own unique way. She will be baptized on the 6th of July. We had to drop Janet's date, because she will be going to Iowa for a while. Yesterday we had a lesson with her solely about the Atonement of Jesus Christ. It was a powerful lesson. Friends, whenever we have a bad day, or anything goes wrong in our lives, we can know with a surety, that Jesus Christ knows exactly what we are going through. As we come to understand the depth of the Aton...

14 May 2019: Doorknobs and Broomsticks

Hola todos! Its been a really fun week! Our zone really improved this week in the work, which was cool to see, and we had interviews with President Youngblood for half the zone on Friday. We had a fun time with that. Here is how this story goes.  We are peacefully sitting in a district council on a beautiful Friday afternoon, around 12:45pm, intending to leave around 1 in order to prepare for interviews with President Youngblood at 2pm. As we were about to leave, we got a call from the Assistants, who told us that the location had abruptly changed to another church building, and they had also changed the time on us to be at 1pm!  So we had to call the missionaries who needed to be at interviews. Here is how those conversations went "Hey elders how's it going? 'Good' 'Awesome, so we have some news. The location for interviews has changed to the Viking street chapel...and your interview starts in 3 minutes."  "WHAT?! IT TAKES 30 ...

7 May 2019: The Final Countdown (kind of)

Image
Elder Loutensock and me Hello! I feel like all of my letters are getting shorter and shorter because I have no time. The reason for the title for this email, is because this past week it was transfers, and then exchanges with the Assistants, and district councils (we have two on Thursday and Friday) and we both were sick on Thursday. However, through our faith and determination to work till the end, we found 12 new people to teach on Saturday and Sunday! And we were fortunate enough to set 3 people on date for baptism this past week! The work is progressing so quickly out here. It felt so great to work in my area again. I really learned the importance of utilizing all of your time.  My new companion is Elder Loutensock, he is originally from the States, but because of his dad's work, he is from Frankfurt, Germany. He is a really hard worker, and we are going to have a lot of success. He has been out one more transfer than me. We were really privileged...

1 May 2019: There Can Be Miracles!

Image
Hi all! Another transfer has come and gone, and I am.....staying in Sandhill! However, Elder Hernandez will be leaving to go be companions with my former companion, Elder Carpio, being a district leader in a Spanish Ward! I am sad to see him go, but excited to train Elder Loutensock to be a zone leader with me! Our zone literally has the potential to lead the mission.  We were supposed to have 4 baptisms this past weekend, but due to circumstances way out of our control, the Echipare kids were unable to be baptized. We found out an hour before the service. Dias got baptized though, and it was a really special experience, but it was sad that the girls couldn't get baptized. We saw them later that day, and they were pretty sad.  We found a really cool family on Friday, through kids that we had talked to many weeks previous and we were able to find and teach the rest of the family, and it was a really awesome miracle that day! We had Mission Leadersh...

24 April 2019: "Elder Lovell ... Congratulations."

Image
Hi all! This is coming to you when I have no time to write, but there are two things I wanted to tell you all.  The church is true, because it is Christ's Church. The reason why I know this is because I got to shake the hand of, and hear the words of a prophet of God. Elder Jeffrey R Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles came to our mission on Saturday, and he was at our stake conference the next day, on Easter Sunday.  We got to have a special mission conference with him and several members of the General Authority Seventies. President Terrance Vinsen, of the Presidency of the Seventy, Elder Kyle Mackay, and Elder Jimenez of the Seventy also were there with us. The entire mission was there! I got to see Elder Troya, who has been serving in Blythe, California, the literal bottom of the mission.  When Elder Holland shook my hand, he looked me in the eyes for a split second, and said, "Elder Lovell, congratulations". He told us all at t...

16 April 2019: I'm Movin' Out!

Image
Hola todos, Its been a great week here in Paradise! We have had a lot of miracles happen here the past week. On Wednesday I dealt with some bruised ribs for no known reason, but we stuck it out and found some really cool people. I learned a really important principle about enduring to the end. This week I saw countenances change as we shared the gospel. We got to teach a lot of families, and the Echipare kids all had successful interviews! On Thursday we had zone conference, in the really rich part of Henderson, and when we got there, all the early morning seminary kids in that stake were using the building. We had to wait an extra hour to start zone conference, and I was conducting! That was fun. We went to the temple to do baptisms for the dead with recent converts, Jazmin, Jalen and Junior. After that Elder Hernandez crashed at the apartment, and when he is asleep, you cant wake him up, so I phone proselyted for the rest of the night.  On Wednesday we ...

9 April 2019: Beans, Beans, the Magical Fruit!

Image
Hola todos! Beans, beans, the magical fruit This week literally snuck past me. General Conference was really awesome. We were expecting some change to come to missionary work, but none came. I loved how the main theme of Conference that I understood: repentance. Repentance is a gift from God that we have that literally gives us second chances.  Now as for the title of this week's chapter in my emails. Yesterday we were doing service, and the lady that we were helping move had SOOO many bean bags. I helped move them out of the cupboards, and took a picture (see pics below). Two other things I want to share are things that happened on Sunday night and yesterday night.  A miracle we experienced was on Sunday night. We were trying to find people to teach, and were have little success. It was at the end of the night and we felt that we should start heading towards the car. When we did, we saw a door that was open on the second floor of this apartment...
