16 April 2019: I'm Movin' Out!

Image
Hola todos, Its been a great week here in Paradise! We have had a lot of miracles happen here the past week. On Wednesday I dealt with some bruised ribs for no known reason, but we stuck it out and found some really cool people. I learned a really important principle about enduring to the end. This week I saw countenances change as we shared the gospel. We got to teach a lot of families, and the Echipare kids all had successful interviews! On Thursday we had zone conference, in the really rich part of Henderson, and when we got there, all the early morning seminary kids in that stake were using the building. We had to wait an extra hour to start zone conference, and I was conducting! That was fun. We went to the temple to do baptisms for the dead with recent converts, Jazmin, Jalen and Junior. After that Elder Hernandez crashed at the apartment, and when he is asleep, you cant wake him up, so I phone proselyted for the rest of the night.  On Wednesday we ...

9 April 2019: Beans, Beans, the Magical Fruit!

Image
Hola todos! Beans, beans, the magical fruit This week literally snuck past me. General Conference was really awesome. We were expecting some change to come to missionary work, but none came. I loved how the main theme of Conference that I understood: repentance. Repentance is a gift from God that we have that literally gives us second chances.  Now as for the title of this week's chapter in my emails. Yesterday we were doing service, and the lady that we were helping move had SOOO many bean bags. I helped move them out of the cupboards, and took a picture (see pics below). Two other things I want to share are things that happened on Sunday night and yesterday night.  A miracle we experienced was on Sunday night. We were trying to find people to teach, and were have little success. It was at the end of the night and we felt that we should start heading towards the car. When we did, we saw a door that was open on the second floor of this apartment...

2 April 2019: President Youngblood's Got Jokes!

Image
Hey everyone! Stacking rocks before the baptism I don't have a ton of time anymore, I never do, but I just want to make sure that I got an email out to you guys. We had a baptism for Jalen, Junior, and Jazmin on Saturday. That was super fun, because they are all starting middle school and high school, so its good that they now have the Gift of the Holy Ghost. There was a lot of people at their baptism, and their family invited their non member friends, who all loved the service. Then we went to this Mexican restaurant named Macayo's. It was pretty expensively bland. It was like a sit down restaurant version of taco bell. Its basically the whitest Mexican restaurant on the planet. Anyway, yesterday, we had MLC (Mission Leadership Council) where all the zone leaders, sister training leaders, and the assistants, and President and Sister Youngblood. It was a great meeting, and I felt the Spirit very strong. But as for President Youngblood's sense of...

26 March 2019: I'm in Paradise!

Hola todos! Service with some kids we are teaching Another week has come and gone in the mission of Elder Lovell! It was a pretty grueling week actually, because there are a lot of new responsibilities I have as a zone leader. I am now attending every district council in the zone, a total of four district councils in two days, which eats up essentially two days of our week. But its a lot of fun. I am already starting to love this zone. It is throwing off my sense of direction though, ha ha.  What used to be the southernmost part of my last area, is now the northernmost part of my area, which throws of my sense of which direction I am going.  My new companion, Elder Hernandez, is my sixth companion. He is from Miami, Florida, which is super fun because we can make east coast jokes all day, like how some people in the east say "Nevahda" instead of "Nevada".  I now have a car in my area, which is nice, because it is a large area, and w...

19 March 2019: Man in the Mirror

Image
Hola todos! Elder Carpio and I with Jimmy, the man we are teaching who will be baptized next month I have negative infinity amount of time to write today, because of transfers being tomorrow, but it has been a fantastic week here in North Vegas! We did a ton of service including moving a shed (yes we literally moved a building) across a large yard with many potholes in it. We found this family that is from the same part of Honduras as Elder Carpio, and we ended up having to refer them to the Spanish ward today, but they are golden! The thing that is even cooler, is that Elder Carpio will be going to the Spanish ward in this stake! So he will be able to teach them anyway!  Us missionaries and the Monte Bello ward mission leader at the "Why I Believe" Fireside We also met this man, who told us that he was baptized over 40 years ago, and wanted help getting back to church. In the last couple of days we have been growing really close to him. This w...

12 March 2019: Don't Worry, Be Happy!

Image
Hola todos! This week kinda flew past me. I caught two colds this week. That was fun. But the highlight actually was this morning. We got up early to do help someone move that some elders in my district had met last night. He had this ginormous Bob Marley Banana that he didn't want to keep. If I was only allowed two suitcases, I would have taken it with me. Easy. So the motto of the week is "Don't Worry, Be Happy!" Yesterday we went to a Hibachi Grill with members and a return missionary and his wife, and Kayla, a recent convert in our ward. I had crab legs for the first time. It was pretty good! I almost had a craw fish, but when I cracked it open, it didn't look right at all, so I decided to not subject my companion to the torture of having his companion in the bathroom the whole day. I'm trying lots of new foods out on my mission because...  I am always hungry! We had a family basically drop us, that we had been teaching for a...

5 March 2019: YES! YES! YES!

Image
Hola todos! Alejandro said, "Yes! Yes! Yes!" when he was baptized This past week has been pretty great! We had the baptism for Alejandro on Saturday, which was so cool. He came out of the water praising God and smiling ear to ear. He kept saying "Yes! Yes! Yes!" It was so cool to see an older man act like a little boy on Christmas Day. He truly wanted to follow Christ, and he is on the best path ever! We had exchanges on Tuesday and Wednesday with our zone leaders. They serve in the top most part of the mission. Their area is the nice "Henderson" part of North Las Vegas. We did a lot of talking to people. We taught a lesson to a new convert from Mississippi and her goddaughter. They both had really thick southern accents. It was hard to understand them at some points.  We also went to this place called "Raisin' Canes Chicken Fingers" which had amazing chicken. It was pretty great! When I was on exchanges, I g...
